A new publication involving LEO Consulting has been published in the journal Earthquake Spectra . The study investigates repair and retrofit strategies for damaged reinforced concrete high-rise buildings following the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquake sequence in Türkiye.
Based on field observations and analytical investigations, the study demonstrates how severely damaged yet repairable buildings can be repaired and seismically retrofitted.
Using a case study of a 13-storey residential building, the authors examine under which conditions repair and retrofit can provide a technically feasible and economically attractive alternative to demolition and reconstruction. The results show that such approaches can not only improve seismic performance but also offer substantial cost savings.
The publication was developed as part of an international collaboration between researchers and engineers from Türkiye, Switzerland, Serbia, Slovenia, Canada and the United States.
