Durchstanzen bezeichnet einen spröden Bruchmechanismus, welcher in Flachdecken vorkommen kann. Flachdecken, die insbesondere in Tiefgaragen und Einstellhallen eingesetzt werden, können ein Versagen in der Nähe einer Stütze oder einer Wand entwickeln, welches zu einem progressiven Kollaps des Tragwerks führt. Die dabei entstehenden Risse, die sich um die belastete Zone ausbreiten, sind oft schwer zu identifizieren und führen somit zu einem Durchstanzversagen ohne Vorankündigung.
Oft weisen erdüberdeckte Tiefgaragen ein Sicherheitsdefizit auf, insbesondere jene, die nachträglich mit übermässiger Erdaufschüttung ohne Rücksicht auf die Statik versehen werden. Dies führt zu einer höheren Belastung der Decke als ursprünglich bemessen und muss daher genauer überprüft werden.
